Asolva Releases New Clinical Pathways Module to Optimize Patient Care
April 26, 2007Los Angeles, CA -- Asolva has released a Clinical Pathways module to help hospitals optimize patient care and comply with JCAHO core measure data collection, as required for hospital accreditation.
Clinical Pathways functions as a module within the Medici clinical pharmacy software system. When pharmacists document their interventions in Medici, they are automatically taken to the Clinical Pathways screen.
Based on the intervention category selected by the pharmacist, a set of guidelines are automatically displayed in a familiar flow sheet format.
The pharmacist can then follow the displayed guidelines and check off activities as they are completed. Web-based management reports summarize guideline compliance, based on pharmacist workload statistics.
By identifying key steps that need to occur in a time sensitive manner, clinicians can effectively standardize patient care for better outcomes. Studies have shown that pathways contribute towards decreases in length of stay and cost.
Effective January 1, 2004, JCAHO has required accredited hospitals with an average daily census over 10 to submit statistics on three core measures. The Medici Clinical Pathways module provides a seamless way for clinical pharmacists to collect core measure statistics while conducting their intervention documentation.
Since pathway rules differ by hospital, the Medici Clinical Pathways module has the flexibility to accommodate the rules specific to each hospital.
Clinical Pathways are structured, multidisciplinary plans of care designed to support the implementation of clinical guidelines and protocols. They offer a flow chart format of the decisions to be made and the care to be provided in a step-wise sequence for a given patient or patient group with a given condition.
