Kaiser Permanente adopts Asolva's daVinci system for hospital assessments
May 15, 2007Los Angeles, CA -- Kaiser Northern California has adopted Asolva's daVinci system to address the growing complexity of their internal hospital assessments. These assessments cover Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) accreditation standards, EMTALA guidelines and other quality improvement related topics. They are used to identify areas for improvement and to document best practices that can serve as models for other Kaiser facilities.
Kaiser Permanente's Northern California Region has an internal team of surveyors that routinely goes to each of the region's 20 sites unannounced. But both the number of surveyors and the number of concurrent surveys have grown in recent years, making it difficult to complete all the work on schedule. In order to keep up, Kaiser needed a system that could synchronize data among multiple team members working online and offline and was capable of consolidating data across multiple assessments for reporting and analysis.
Specifically designed to meet these criteria, daVinci has proven to be well suited to Kaiser's assessment process. The team uses a mobile daVinci database in the field, and then synchronizes with a master database at the central office to accumulate all assessment results for reporting and analysis. The team has conducted over 20 assessments using daVinci since January, 2007.
In addition to this critical flexibility and convenience, other features have made the daVinci system increasingly popular. Users can configure daVinci to adapt to changing regulations by adding, modifying or removing topics as needed. daVinci's unique tree structure allows any number of categorization levels and multiple responses to questions at any level. Inspection forms are built using dropdowns, radio buttons, and checkboxes where structured data is needed and free text boxes for narrative information such as observations and recommendations. The team can print out formatted reports and give them directly to the hospital leaders.
"daVinci is more than a database." says John Keeler, VP of Product Strategy at Asolva. "It is structured to accommodate audit and inspection topics and was designed to facilitate the audit/inspection process. These features make it easy to adapt daVinci to other industries that require inspections including construction, food service and housing. As the business environment becomes more complex and highly regulated, daVinci offers companies an easy way to adjust and stay competitive."
